NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org) starts 12:00 a.m. November 1st, 2008. I encourage everyone to participate in this yearly frenzy to write 50,000 word novels in the space of 30 days, jumping the hurdles of Thanksgiving, the first weekend frenzy of Christmas shopping, baking cookies, trimming the tree (we always started the day after Thanksgiving), etc.

This year, Thanksgiving comes late--the 27th--so that most of the month is free for writing. Here in Louisville, the event, Bardstown Road Aglow, is mercifully set on December 1st. All we need to worry about here is Thanksgiving.

In honor of NaNoWriMo, mandatory subject writing is suspended for a month, though I will keep posting subjects, more to stimulate and urge ideas for your novels to grow. I might post these more than once a week as I am inspired. Feel free to use them or not.

Feel free to post anything you want (not all 50,000 words, please), up to 3000 words. We'd love to see your favorite scenes, your best lines, your quips, promos, etc.

To start with, this is to further your plots:

Pirates
or
Ninjas
or
Food
or
Bunnies

Good luck to you all.

New themes:

A day of infamy

or

Turn the world on its head

As always, post whatever you please, staying away from fanfic of other authors' characters.

Themes

Dressed to the nines

or

At sixes and sevens

Extension

Okay, just one more week and then I'll post new ones. Try working on the old ones just this week and we'll see what we can do next.

Ketchup

Pass the Catch-Up, please.

I am being very lazy this week, but I think it's for a good cause. I am sure there are some bloggers that are very tired. So this will be a 2-week assignment.

Entries due August 10th

Everything is fair game. Here are a lot of the past subjects to write about to choose from:

Beat the Heat

__________  sucks  (optional favorite noun phrase or adverb) !

[I hope that makes sense. Example:
This sucks a lot!
or
Painting sucks a big green weenie.
or simply:
This sucks!]

Some like it hot

Take out the trash

Up a tree

In Search Of...

Life Preserver

Count Me In

Simple pleasures

Crafty as a fox

Music of the Spheres

loose ends

Silver and Gold

My love is like a red, red rose

Trend(s)

Not your average ________

tableware

an odd pair

Proposal

Spies

"She drives me Crazy"

"How Bizarre"

About last night

A trip to the dentist

As always, most anything is acceptable. I think we set down a guideline that said fanfic was discouraged. However, writing story arcs with your own characters reappearing is highly encouraged. What better way to get in touch with them for your serious publishing!

If you have a fanfic that you think is a terrific story, try "filing off the names" and see if the story can stand alone. There are more sorcerers than just the current popular ones. Ninjas and pirates are always acceptable, as much as any plot furtherance techniques (I almost said plot ninjas). The idea being if your story fizzles out, throw in a few pirates or ninjas (or sorcerers or fair maidens or questing young men or comic sidekicks) and see where they take your story.

Stories are accepted from 50 to 3000 words.

Happy writing!
